Honoring Those Who Devote Their “Extra Life” to Building a Better World: The Medtronic Foundation’s 2018 Bakken Invitation

Do you know someone who has been given an “extra life” thanks to medical technology and is now devoted to making a difference in communities?

The Medtronic Foundation is seeking applications for the Bakken Invitation, a global program that recognizes and connects inspiring individuals who have benefited from medical technology and are now making a difference in communities through advocacy, innovation and volunteering.

Named after Medtronic co-founder Earl Bakken, the Bakken Invitation brings together patients who “Live On” through their advocacy contributions, “Give On” through innovation, and “Dream On” through their vision of a better world. Each year, the Medtronic Foundation selects a new group of honorees who are invited to Hawaii to be recognized by Earl Bakken in person. The program includes five inspirational days of learning and networking with other individuals committed to making a difference. Attendees leave with a sharpened set of skills, new connections and a heightened sense of purpose.

Honorees receive air transportation, meals and lodging for two in Kona, Hawaii from Jan. 9-14, 2019. Since 2013, 59 people have been recognized as Bakken Invitation Honorees. If you know someone whose inspiring story makes them a good candidate for the Bakken Invitation, please encourage them to apply. People age 14 or older who received eligible medical technology are welcome to apply, regardless of device manufacturer.
